Marshall Fundamental celebrates Julia Franco earns perfect score on AP Research Exam

Julia is one of only 306 students in the world to earn every point possible on the 2022 AP Research Exam, receiving the maximum score on each portion of the exam. Julia’s 5,000+ word academic research paper was one of nearly 27,000 papers submitted to the College Board, from secondary schools around the globe.

The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Brian McDonald stated, “I am very proud of what Julia has accomplished.  Achieving a perfect score on the Advanced Placement Capstone Research Examination is rare and speaks to not only her discipline and hard work but also the quality of the academic program at Marshall.

Principal Lori Touloumian stated, “I am so excited to celebrate Julia and her accomplishments. Her achievement is impressive, and the collective work reached by Julia under the instruction of Dr. Mary Stevens, AP Capstone Teacher is incredible.”

As a Marshall Fundamental Eagle, Julia was enrolled in the Academy for Creative Industries (ACI)  in the Music Track. She was a member of the Marching Band, the Jazz Band, and the Wind Ensemble, and she was the Saxophone Section Leader. She completed her ACI College and Career Pathway required Summer Internship at the Pasadena Unified School District in Business Services and earned her ACI Medallion. She is recognized by the College Board as an AP Scholar with Distinction and by the National Hispanic Recognition Program as an outstanding Hispanic High School student.

Julia’s parents Tony and Adela Franco exclaimed, “Your ambition, determination, and hard work is inspiring! We are beyond proud, Congratulations!”

She has elected to start her post-secondary education at UC Santa Barbara, majoring in Music.
